Mr. Arian Zulgai Azimi, investment deputy; Mr. Enayatullah Sediqzai, services deputy; Haji Obaidullah, member of the Board of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), Mr. Homayoun Khowaja Zada, commercial deputy of the Kabul Chamber of Commerce and Investment (KCCI), and Mr. Ghulam Sakhy Mohammadi, chief executive officer of the KCCI along with a number of traders met with Mr. Nooruddin Azizi, minister of industry and commerce. The meeting focused on discussions regarding the suspension of thousands of commercial containers at the country’s border crossings with Pakistan.
During the meeting, the deputies of ACCI and the traders raised their concerns about the stoppage of approximately 8,000 commercial containers on both sides of the border crossings. Expressing serious concern over the continuation of this situation, they called on the ministry of industry and commerce to cooperate in resolving the existing problem.
They described the detention of thousands of containers belonging to Afghan traders at Karachi port and other ports as a serious obstacle to trade between the two countries, adding that the continuation of this trend has caused losses amounting to tens of millions of dollars to traders and the national economy.
The minister of industry and commerce, after listening to the traders’ concerns, expressed his full cooperation in addressing the issues and also urged the country’s traders to use alternative routes in order to prevent the recurrence of such situations in the future.
