Badghis

The pistachios of Badghis were harvested before reaching full maturity.

Details
08 July 2025

Badghis pistachios are considered among the finest and highest-quality natural varieties of this product in the country.
Previously, the press office of the Badghis provincial governor had announced the formation of a special committee aimed at “protecting pistachio products.”
In the official statement, it was noted that Hafiz Mohammad Amin Jan Omari, Governor of Badghis, emphasized in the committee’s first session the prohibition of harvesting pistachios before full ripeness.
He had urged citizens to maintain public order and follow the Ministry of Agriculture’s procedures for allowing the pistachios to ripen completely.
It was also mentioned that officials from the relevant departments were present at the meeting and that special security units were assigned to protect the natural pistachio forests of Badghis.
The residents of Badghis welcomed the government’s decision and demanded protection of pistachio products and prevention of premature picking.
However, unfortunately—similar to recent years—on the evening of Friday, 13th of Saratan 1404, the pistachio groves of Badghis were stormed by local residents and those from neighboring provinces, and the harvest was collected prematurely (before ripening), in raw and incomplete form. This approach has damaged the value, quality, and reputation of Badghis pistachios.
Now, residents of Badghis have gathered the products from the natural pistachio forests and brought them to the market.
Currently, one man (approximately 8 kilograms) of pistachios with clusters ("Qajoom") is being bought and sold at a price of 600 Afghanis, indicating a price drop compared to last year and recent years.

Badghis Chamber of Commerce & Investment

The Badghis Chamber of Commerce and Investment operates under the country’s prevailing laws, the Chamber Regulation Law, and its own charter to support traders and drive economic development. It provides Badghis merchants with legal protection, expands trade relations, hosts conferences and exhibitions, offers legal, financial, and business advice, and works to improve economic and trade infrastructure. Notable contributions include securing imported electricity from Turkmenistan—now delivering the province’s most reliable power supply—and helping advance construction of the Qaisar–Laman ring road. By 2017 (1396 SH), the chamber had registered seven affiliated unions and associations and welcomed more than 700 companies into membership, continuing to deliver a wide range of services and facilities to its members today.
